WOW!!! Amazing. We have passed 115,000 signatures to #freethekees. You are all so amazing. Special thanks to Jason Barnaby and his team at the Change site for helping promote this mission. You are truly the Voice for the Voiceles.
What are we Doing to Stop This
We continue to work to get local authorities to get involved and enforce animal cruelty laws using our experience with the 60 dogs we have been able to free from Marjorie’s Kennel. Along with this petition, we tweet, we send FB posts and messages and we write to the Governor, the AG, and the Ags and Markets department, in an effort to bring enough public awareness to get them to the right thing. We are a small all volunteer group but with all your support we are a force to be reckoned with and we are not going away until every one of these dogs are free and Marjorie is not breeding.
We have been a bit frustrated in the last month as we talked a local billboard company and raised money to put up a couple of billboards to increase awareness in Broome County. We had quotes for the cost, had sent them sample copy and had locations picked out. However, when we went to place the final order the company would not take our order and neither would any other company in Broome County. We were told “you will never get a billboard in Broome County”. We then reached out to the Binghamton Press Connect and they would not run an anti-Puppy Mill ad either.
If you have any ideas how to get his issue more attention or have contacts in the media, you can contact me as the owner of this petition. I welcome your ideas.
How are the Rescued Dogs Doing
All the rescued dogs are adapting well to living in their furever homes, some are progressing more quickly than others but they are all making progress. Due to their health issues, physical issues due to poor breeding practices and their lack of any positive human interaction, they all still struggle with fear and anxiety at times but to see them today, it might be hard to believe that some of them are only a little of a year or so out of a puppy mill.
Sherman, living in Seattle, has become quite the star. He was pictured of one of the Seattle Seahawk’s 12th dogs on a local TV show and represented the breed and his fellow puppy mill survivors at the Seattle Kennel Club. His very special accomplishment is that he is now a certified Therapy dog so that he can now help people who need special assistance and love.
Reggie, living on Long Island, is also a star. He has become a Expert Level Trick Dog and is working toward his Championship Level. Reggie can roll a barrel, play the piano and bongos, close a door, turn off a wall light switch and many more great tricks. Reggie has also earned his Advance Canine Good Citizen award
• Vreede is also a Certified Therapy Dog and is learning Agility. She is also a Canine Good Citizen
• Stella is practicing competitive Obedience.
• Hagrid is a Canine Good Citizen and is nearing his Therapy Dog certification
• Audra has earned her Canine Good Citizen award and practice dog freestyle
• Kirby has his Canine Good Citizen Award and is helping Kassidy make a wonderful transition to a healthy loving dog.
Many of the girls that were rescued had been bred repeatedly and are having a longer road to health and happiness but they are moving forward
• Nell, although she suffers from diabetes and severe hip dysplasia, is loving her life and has learned how to adapt to her injuries and still play with the other dogs in her family. She practices touch play and trust exercises with her Mom every day and her progress is amazing
• Kassidy has come through multiple surgeries for knee issues and mammary cancer and is now thriving at her furver home, (with her mill brother Kirby). The patience and love her parents have shown has truly turned her into a new dog.
• Greta, Freya and Gina have all learned to start trust their Human moms and love to play with the other dogs in their homes. Greta loves playing aunt to the puppies at her house, she is so sweet and gentle with them.
• Noelle had a rough start with her life outside Marjories’s but she is thriving now and living a happy fun life in Nova Scotia
This is only an update on a few of the dogs or I would have you reading all day. Watching the freed dogs learn to play, trust and learn makes my heart break for the 50 that remain trapped at the puppy mill and increases my determination to bring them all home
I leave you with a couple of videos of the freed dogs to warm your hearts and encourage your resolve to #freethekees
