Wow, the petition has been up a little over a day and we are already close to 2,000 signatures. I talked to Dennis this afternoon. He asked me to pass on his thanks to all who have signed and shared. The blog's deactivation remains a strange and awful mystery, he said, but "people are being just amazing."
As of this writing, there is no response from Google.
Your signatures, your comments, and your willingness to keep spreading the word are so important--with enough noise, we can help Dennis get to a positive resolution.
If you haven't had the chance, the hundreds of comments that have been left on the petition from all around the world make for some heartening reading. For instance, Chris Goode in London wrote: "Dennis Cooper's blog is one of the most important artworks of this century so far -- no exaggeration. This takedown by Google is an act of unbelievably wanton vandalism, and it must be reversed as a matter of urgency. A global community of artists is watching."
Keep talking, keep sharing.
Mark
