Dear Signatories

14 November – the birthday of the1st PM of India, Jawaharlal Nehru - is celebrated as Children's Day  across India, to increase awareness about the rights, education & welfare of children. Ask any mother and she will tell you how much effort it takes to first bear a child and then bring up the infant to be a worthwhile citizen, contributing to society and nation.  Our CFN Initiative #ChooseNonviolent Defence asks mothers to join & support our initiative, because every soldier killed at the front in war, is the son of a mother. For a mother it is an unbearable loss to lose her child. So, we call upon All Mothers to unitedly work for a World Beyond War. Whether these women are Russian, American, Pakistani, Indian or of any other nationality, their pain at losing their loved children in war is the same. It is said, war may sometimes be necessary for defending one’s country. But, cannot a country be defended nonviolently? Our initiative is a step in that direction.

Here it is apt to quote some thought-provoking lines from The Prophet, by Khalil Gibran - On Children:

Your children are not your children
They are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow.

Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams
You may strive to be like them.
But seek not to make them like you
For life goes not backward, nor tarries with yesterday.
