Eid-ul-Adha, the ‘Holy Festival of Sacrifice’, honoring Ibrahim’s instantaneous sacrifice of his son on Allah’s command, is celebrated by the Islamic community all over the world, as symbolic of trust and surrender to the Divine and it’s reward – because Allah intervenes at the last moment, preventing Ibrahim from killing his son – and saving him.  Today, it is meet that we give up our negative emotions like – anger, hatred, hostility, envy, jealousy and ego-centered responses and replace them with peace, friendliness, forgiveness, positivity and altruism, with Allah as our witness. 

Traditionally, as part of the Eid festivities, every Muslim family sacrifices an animal, signifying Ibrahim’s sacrifice, and distributes it in charity to the poor and needy.
