The Issue

Hello, I am starting this petition because of the the End Of Life (EOL)/ Auto Update Expiration (AUE) for Chrome Devices. These devices can no longer receive updates for the Chrome OS (Operating System) because google doesn't wont to support old hardware. Which means using these older devices could result in lost or stolen information. In my opinion this makes the outdated Chromebook unusable and forces you to no longer use the device. As a result I would like google to release an Official firmware update at the End Of Life (EOL)/ Auto Update Expiration (AUE) to allow another OS to be installed such as Chromium OS, Ubuntu or an OS of your choosing.

You can check the EOL/AUE dates here.

Edit: This was started because of the Samsung Chromebook (Series 5 XE500C21). The stock bios will not allow you to remove the Chrome OS and install Linux or another OS. ChrUbuntu is dead, crouton gives some errors that has not been resolved, Chrx does not support this laptop, and Seabios does not seem to be supported on this Chromebook. I would much prefer an Official bios that allows a true install of Linux than being force to fine alternatives that may cause damage to the device. Also owners should not have to go through hoops and hurdles in order to install an OS on a chrome device. If google doesn't support that device any longer, than an owner should have the right to be able to install an OS with ease. Just as an owner can do with a laptop on today's market.
