New letter for Google!

Good morning, everyone! The following is the letter, attached to the petition, addressed to Google LLC and Alphabet Corp. In addition, the link to the version of the petition in Italian has been inserted.

THE LETTER: 

To Whom it may concern,

We ask Alphabet Corp. and more specifically Google LLC to take into consideration the introduction of a functionality in one of their products. The functionality in question, called in this petition “eco mode”, has several scopes that should benefit both your company image, your user base and the collective as a whole.

This theorized functionality consists on a new method to calculate navigation paths optimized to reduce fuel consumption that we propose you to introduce alongside the paths that google maps already proposes. We propose that the procedure to calculate a path based on fuel consumption should take into consideration changes of elevation of the road, fluidity of traffic and optimal speeds (such as, apparently, 35 mph and 50 mph) without compromising on speed too much.

Furthermore, we also propose, if possible, the introduction of a window or pop-up of some kind activated through voluntary means or when a navigation path calculated for optimal fuel consumption is chosen, which lists tips on how to reduce fuel consumption. (I.e. don’t bring unnecessary stuff! Every 100 pounds you will consume 2% more fuel!).

Rough estimations (which methodology of calculation is explained in the petition page where you can also find the sources for all the other statistics) seem to point out a possible median reduction of fuel consumption of 16% which would translate to a CO2 annual global output reduction of 82 million tons. Enabling your user to consume less fuel would also mean enabling him to reduce costs, therefore making your service more convenient both to you, as your product will have yet another edge over your competitors, and your user base, that will save money and pollute less.
