I would really welcome your thoughts here. The link below is to a Qld Government announcement where they are running a tender to find technology that can block mobile phone use while driving.

Apple & Google could fix this in 24 hours and it would have an impact globally. Distracted driving is after all a global problem and a HUGE one! I think the QLD Government should be lobbying them hard instead!

Both company's have already created the "Do Not Disturb While Driving" feature. It works wonderfully and does not interfere with passengers using their devices at all. The problem is that you have to chose to turn it on - sadly, due to mobile phone addiction, almost no one does!

This petition outlines exactly what Apple and Google need to do! In 24 hours the problem is fixed and its a global solution! Sure, there are always total idiots who can't help themselves, but I believe the greater majority would be fine with it. I use it and it is fantastic.

I am also all for greater fines (make it hurt!) and better methods of enforcement, detection and education. These compliment the program.
