This year marks the 50th year for the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Nowhere is the oppressive reality of the occupation more clear than in the Palestinian city of Al-Khalil (Hebron). The city is home to about 7,000 Palestinian residents and 850 Israeli settlers. To "protect" the settlers, the Israeli military enforces extreme limitations on the freedom of movement of the Palestinian residents. Shuhada street, formerly Hebron's main marketplace and thoroughfare, is now completely shut down to Palestinian movement. While armed settlers roam the street freely, Palestinians must cross dozens of checkpoints and barriers in order to cross the area, their businesses shut down and those who live in the street must enter their houses through back doors and rooftops, all while being constantly harassed by settlers.

A significant part of the Hebron settler's subsistence is derived from donations, particularly American donations, including Goldman Sachs Charitable Gift Fund which consistently donates to right wing Israeli groups or their American fronts, among them the NY based Hebron Fund that directly finances the Hebron Settlers.
