Dear petition supporters,

more than 230,000 people signed our petition already and demand safe passages from Afghanistan for all people who have to leave the country.

While the governments of Austria and Switzerland refuse to directly take in Afghan refugees and France's president Macron talks about “protecting and bracing ourselves for large irregular migration flows”, European Commissioner for Economy, Gentiloni, is also calling for a humanitarian corridor to receive people fleeing Afghanistan.

The German government's focus is primarily set on the evacuation of Afghans who have worked for Germany directly or with German institutions. Otherwise, chancellor Angela Merkel relies on cooperating with neighboring states such as Pakistan, in order to prevent flight movements to Europe.

A conference of the EU foreign ministers also came to the conclusion that it would be necessary to talk with the Taliban as well as support neighboring countries “in order to prevent a potential migration catastrophe, but also a humanitarian crisis”.

We consider it irresponsible and inhumane to create strategies to repel people seeking protection whilst we receive dramatic pictures, situation reports and cries for help from Afghanistan hourly. In addition, it is a fact that German politics are also to blame and responsible for the situation on site.

The passages to Afghanistan's neighboring countries must not end in more misery camps with years of hopelessness for entire families. Germany and the EU member states cannot and must not shift the responsibility onto Afghanistan’s neighboring countries. With the same demand, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai appealed to governments worldwide: “Countries need to open their borders to Afghan refugees, the displaced people”.

Therefore, we can only repeat our call on the German government - hoping that it will be heard as quickly as possible:

Create safe passages from Afghanistan for all people who have to flee! Now!

Please continue to support our demand:

#SafePassage #Afghanistan

Thank you very much for your support! Only together we can make a change.
