We don't want to count chickens before they're hatched but the campaign to save Govan Graving Docks from being redeveloped for housing has received a significant boost this week.
With 58 public objections and only one comment in favour of the housing proposals having already been submitted at the end of last year, an objection has been lodged to the NCV Ltd housing plans this week by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
SEPA's appraisal shows that the flood risk assessment and flood protection measures in the planning application are wholly inadequate and make it clear that the graving docks are unsuited to a housing development of this type.
SEPA are a statutory consultee, as are Historic Environment Scotland who also object to the NCV Ltd proposals. To go against their advice would be extremely difficult for Glasgow City Council to justify for such a controversial development that will not benefit the people of Govan. Especially with alternative proposals from Jim McColl to return the docks to their original use having been so enthusiastically received locally.
You can read more in the Glasgow Live article and the objection submitted by SEPA can be found on the Glasgow City Council planning portal.
