Now that Govan Docks Maritime Park SCIO charity (SC046875) has been registered we are just at the end of the beginning of the campaign to save Govan’s unique historic dry docks. If we were climbing Everest (and metaphorically we are!) this would be base camp. This week as we mark the 130th anniversary of No. 2 dry dock, which opened on 13th October 1886, we are appealing once again for our supporters to help meet the Clyde Docks Preservation Initiative’s core costs. CDPI aims to continue to provide project management and administrative services to the Govan Docks Maritime Park SCIO as well as expanding our campaign, outreach and stakeholder engagement activities. In a huge boost to the project, we have now had an offer of technical support and expertise from a major civil engineering company. We also have a volunteer architect working with us to prepare for a design competition for architecture students to produce masterplan proposals for a maritime park. We are now lobbying Glasgow City Council to begin the process of a compulsory purchase of the graving docks site on behalf of the charity (https://www.change.org/p/glasgow-city-council-serve-a-repairs-notice-for-govan-graving-docks). However this is potentially a long and complex process and not something that will be done and dusted in a couple of months. Our work in the upcoming period will involve: · Outreach and admin on behalf of Govan Docks Maritime Park SCIO · Continuing the campaign and lobbying against housing redevelopment proposals · Researching and processing funding applications for the charity · Volunteer recruitment, mentoring and coordination · Organising a design competition for architecture students · Ongoing consultation and stakeholder engagement · Travel to and from meetings We have revised and dramatically cut our budget projections and estimated our essential core funding costs at just under £1,000 per month at this stage of the project. We are asking as many of our supporters as possible to pledge between £5 and £10 per month or whatever you can afford to meet our core costs. If even 200 of our 8,000+ supporters pledge £5 a month that will cover it! If we exceed our fundraising target we will be able to expand the scope of our networking activities and further strengthen the project. You can do this either via a recurring PayPal payment or by setting up a standing order with your bank. Further instructions at http://cdpi.org.uk/support_us.htm For bank transfer instructions please email fundraising@cdpi.org.uk Although we have had many generous one off donations we do need to sustainably cover our expenses on an ongoing basis if the project is to continue. Our team also need to commit more time to the project in the coming months and longer. All our donors will be able to subscribe to our VIP mailing list and we are seeking out special offers from businesses exclusive to our supporters.
