We have been informed by Glasgow City Council that New City Vision have been undertaking site investigation work at Govan Graving Docks as part of preparations required to submit an application for planning consent. We are also told they intend to seek an EIA Screening Opinion shortly. We have no information as regards to if or when New City Vision intend to apply for planning consent (they've been delaying repeatedly for years now). We will issue guidance on objecting to any planning application in due course. If we're going to kill off housing plans then we need as many people as possible to lodge objections. With Glasgow City Council seemingly intent on facilitating the developers we will most likely be relying on the Scottish Government to call in any planning application as they have done with New City Vision's proposal for North Kelvin Meadow. This battle could well go to the wire but we're certainly not for quitting! The site investigation work has been going on for several weeks but with the impact we are seeing from Brexit on the property markets and investor confidence (with shares in FTSE 100 house builders falling sharply and investment firms suspending trading in commercial property funds) - plans for housing at the graving docks may well be scuppered regardless of any planning issues. A commercial housing development of the graving docks would require a careless investor with very deep pockets who doesn't expect to ever see a return.
