Update: THE ARCHES BOARD TAKES LEGAL ADVICE OVER LICENCE DECISION

Hello everyone, First of all, thank you so much for showing such support to The Arches by signing and sharing this petition. The staff and management of The Arches have sent us messages of thanks, and have been overwhelmed by the public outpouring of support for the venue. Tonight, The Arches published a statement regarding their next steps. These include taking legal action against the licensing board's decision, to ensure it is overturned, allowing the Arches to operate as a club again. As we all know, the club is vital not only to Glasgow's vibrant nightlife, but also because of the income it provides to support the world-class arts programme at the venue. Some facts and figures: > Of the 250,000 clubbers who visited The Arches during the review period, just 0.14% were reported for misuse of drugs incidents. Police Scotland are using the Arches' vigilance against them. > The Arches employs 133 people, as well as countless freelancers. All of their jobs are in jeopardy because of this decision. > The Arches has an annual turnover of £3.8m, of which only 15% comes from public subsidy. The rest is self-generated, much of it from club nights. > Club activity accounts for 51% of the organisation's entire turnover. > In 2013/14 The Arches supported 146 emergent performance makers, and staged or supported 43 brand new performances. 148 international artists also presented theatre or live music at the venue. We must keep up pressure on Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland to let them know that this is an unjust decision, which has wider ramifications than simply closing a nightclub. Please continue to share this petition on social media and with your contacts, to ensure that the agencies responsible take notice. Please also write to your local councillors, MPs and MSPs to show your support for The Arches' continued survival.
