Here is a copy of the letter I will be posting out today.

 

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing as a concerned citizen and Security officer on Harborne high st. I am deeply committed to ensuring the safety of the public we serve.

 

I would like to bring to your attention a pressing matter concerning the rise in knife crime and the readiness of security guards to deal with modern-day threats. Currently, the law restricts security guards from accessing certain non-lethal tools that could significantly enhance their ability to protect individuals and property without resorting to lethal force.

 

In light of the increasing incidents of knife crime and other contemporary security challenges, I kindly request that you consider supporting legislative changes that would allow security guards to carry and utilize non-lethal tools, such as pepper spray, Tasers, or other approved devices, in the course of their duties. These tools have proven to be effective in de-escalating situations, reducing harm, and ensuring the safety of all parties involved.

 

The benefits of such a change in legislation are numerous:

 

• Enhanced Safety: Non-lethal tools can help prevent injuries or fatalities in security-related incidents.

 

• Effective Deterrence: The presence of non-lethal tools can act as a deterrent, discouraging aggressive behavior.

 

• Control and Restraint: Non-lethal tools provide security guards with alternatives to lethal force, enabling safer resolution of conflicts.
