Petition updateGive Shona Banda, a loving mom and medical marijuana patient, her freedom. Will Shona Banda be the next Jonathan Magbie?

For those of you unfamiliar with the tragic tale of Jonathan Magbie, he was a young man in Washington DC who used cannabis to control the muscle spasms and pain that came with being paralyzed. He died slowly over the first four days of his 10 day jail sentence handed to him by a judge who resented his therapeutic use of marijuana.
While Shona isn't paralyzed and it might take her a little longer to die in prison, that's not outside the realm of awful possibilities. There was a lot of media attention when the story first broke that Shona's 11 year old son was removed from her custody after defending his mother's right to use cannabis. A Gofundme legal defense page set up by an ally turned enemy raised $50,000, of which $26,000 was paid to a criminal defense attorney in Lawrence, Kansas who Shona would fire a few months later after feeling bullied and mistreated. The Gofundme me legal defense page has since been taken down and the rest of the money has not been accounted for.
Shona, at this point, is possibly more vulnerable than she has been since this battle began. Her health continues to waver under the stress and without reliable access to the medicine that has helped her heal; she recently spent nearly a month in a hospital in Boulder before undergoing surgery to remove scar tissue that was impacting her ability to breathe and she has been so I'll that her public defender ordered an examination to see if she was fit to stand trial.
If you haven't signed and shared this petition, please do so. And please keep Shona in your thoughts and prayers in the coming year.
