Can you give some numbers to highlight the student debt crisis?

In 2025, B.tech students have to pay ₹8L in total for their 4 year tuition in IITM. This is way above India's projected GDP per capita of ₹2.35L. Contrast this to the scenario in 2007, when their total tuition fees would have been ₹1L and somewhat closer to the then GDP per capita of ₹42k. Going as far as 1959, when IITM had German faculty, merit scholars were in fact awarded  ₹900 per year, which is more than twice the then GDP per capita of  ₹400.
