Hello!

By now you would be aware of the petition being run by APT Kuranda. We ask that you assist in creating a plan to engage Queensland Rail TMR with the possibility of applying for funding to run either the Savannahlander or Kuranda Scenic Rail with locals in mind.

We think all the issues presented within the petition including problems with the Kuranda Range and Barron River Bridge, prove ticket prices should be affordable to the local public in Kuranda and Cairns to simply get people off the road.

Do we want to see every event with traffic backed up half way down the range?
Do we want to see a catastrophe regarding the bridge, because of this...

We have contacted local MP's and local councils who liked the idea, although MP Mark Bailey will not speak with us.  What do you think? Isn't it time that a private company who utilise a publicly owned rail line, should encourage locals to use their service at a realistic price? You CAN have two prices, one for tourists, one for locals, and ticketing can be sold online, monitored via ID for any concerns regarding vandalisation.

We believe you would have reliable patronage if you support local people.  We also believe you need to change your perspective on tourism which puts locals last.  Community is what needs to be honoured.

It only makes sense to consider our suggestion and discuss the topic in a public forum - not to, only confirms the needs of the Kuranda and Cairns community as being secondary to the Tourism industry and gains of big business, which has taken a toll on community dynamics.  Please call us or email us, we would like to hear from you!
