The Issue

Imagine a little girl, only five years of age, being forced into marriage with a man almost 10 times her age. This is the tragic reality many young girls in Afghanistan face every day. I was heartbroken to learn about a young girl, whose innocence and childhood are being robbed because of an unjust society. She is just a child, expected to bear children for someone who should be her protector, not her oppressor. This is not just a story from a distant land; it's a call for help from our sisters and daughters.

Afghanistan has seen tremendous upheaval over recent years, and unfortunately, it is the women and children who suffer the most. Regrettably, their voices are suppressed, and their rights are continuously violated. According to statistics from various humanitarian organizations, nearly 60% of marriages in Afghanistan involve brides under the age of 16. This is a blatant violation of basic human rights and international laws aiming to protect children.

Ensuring freedom and rights for Afghan women and children is not just a moral obligation, but a necessity for the future of the country. Educating girls can increase the economic stability of families, lead to healthier communities, and promote peace. However, approximately 3.7 million Afghan children are out of school, and 60% of them are girls, highlighting a dire need for change.

We demand that international bodies, human rights organizations, and governments step up their efforts to advocate for the protection of Afghan women and children. We need to press for educational initiatives, legal reforms to end child marriages, and empowerment programs that give them a voice. The UN and Afghan government should prioritize the establishment of safe havens for those at risk and implement strict penalties against those who perpetuate gender-based violence.

By signing this petition, you are demanding action to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Let us be the voice for the voiceless and pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future for Afghan women and children. Stand with me and raise your voice for change.
