Put a ring on it.
The Issue
Imagine it's your Junior year in high school. You have been in Girl Scouts for over a decade years. Jostens comes to your school to talk about class rings. You are so excited, the time has finally come for you to get very own customized class ring. You open up the pamphlet to look at all the different sports, clubs, organizations, etc. that you can get on the sides of your ring. You look and there is nothing for Girl Scouts. There is not one design for an organization that you have been a part of for 10+ years. That was me last month when Josten's came to my high school.
Jostens class rings have hundreds of options for various clubs and organizations. Included in the list of options are two designs for Boy Scouts, however; they don't have any options for students in Girl Scouts. Founded in 1912, Girl Scouts is more than 100 years old, and has membership in over 145 countries and consisting of 10 million girls and young women. Its mission is to help build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. As Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Girls grow courageous and strong through a wide variety of enriching experiences, such as field trips, skill-building sports clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships. We only hope for the same courtesy that so many other organizations are accustomed to.
If you believe, as I do, that this important organization should receive the same recognition as others, such as Boy Scouts, please join us in letting Josten know. Girls that have spent years in developing crucial life and living skills taught to make a better society deserve this recognition.
Thank you
