Girl Scouts of America to make non GMO & GF cookies

From their very own website:

"Girl Scout Cookies had their earliest beginnings in the kitchens and ovens of our girl members, with moms volunteering as technical advisers. The sale of cookies as a way to finance troop activities began as early as 1917, five years after Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouts in the United States, when the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, baked cookies and sold them in its high school cafeteria as a service project. to help assist and aide the troops."

By 1933 the cookies went from high school kitchens and homes to commercial bakeries. Giving less experience for the girls to learn to cook and more experience on marketing and sales of the cookies.

There used to be over 27 bakeries cooking the Girl Scout cookies and now it's down to two bakers, ABC Bakery and Little Brown Bakery and the reasoning "so the cookies and message stay consistent".  But what this also brought was use of extremely cheap and questionable ingredients. The flour used in their cookies is made from wheat sprayed with an incredibly toxic ingredient known as "glyphosate".

The Girl Scout cookies have come under fire numerous times for having Trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, cottonseed oil, palm oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated fats, and other sub-quality ingredients in their cookies. They have removed some but there are still so many toxic ingredients remaining in their cookies.

When calling the bakery about providing non-GMO options, the customer service Rep thought that GMOs were the greatest thing and there is no such way glyphosate could contaminate GMOs. She noted my request and I promised her we would back it up with hundreds of calls and emails and now this petition.

Many, many parents have not let their kids participate in the selling of Girl Scout cookies due to the GMOs in them.

We are asking Girl Scouts of America to stand with millions of parents who want their kids to be supporting and selling cookies made with fresh, local and non GMO ingredients and to only license to bakeries who believe in making cookies without the use of GMOs.

We are asking ABC Bakery and Little Brown Bakers to rise to occasion like they did with all other sub quality ingredients and remove all GMOs from their cookies OR provide certified nonGMO options.
