The Issue

Dr. Higley, a professor in the TED department, has severely impacted my academic experience along with my peers'. She has made the TED major unbearably challenging, leading us to develop a disdain for a field we were once passionate about.

For many of us, entering the TED department was motivated by a deep interest and a desire to contribute positively to the field. However, with Dr. Higley's teaching approach and unprofessional manor, this enthusiasm has quickly faded. Her method is often described as discouraging and dismissive, which has fostered an environment of fear rather than inspiration. With examples of: showing other classmates other peers work and asking them to fix it because their peers are not doing well, saying slurs in class such as the N word, showing the entire classes grades on the smart board and keeping students after class time has ended.

Statistics have shown that an inspiring and supportive educational environment is key to student success, as reported by Education Week, which indicates that students are more likely to excel under positive and constructive leadership. On the contrary, Dr. Higley's influence has resulted in thoughts of dropping out of the department. This is not something that should define our educational experience.

We recognize the importance of high academic standards and challenges that education brings. However, it must also be balanced with encouragement and guidance. Dr. Higley's approach lacks this balance, depriving students of a fair and engaging learning experience.

We are calling upon the university's administration to conduct a thorough review of Dr. Higley's teaching practices. By doing so, the institution can ensure that future students can thrive in a supportive environment that values their contribution and fosters their growth.

Sign this petition to urge the university to take the necessary steps towards enhancing the educational experience for current and future TED department students. Your support can help bring about positive change and reignite our passion for our chosen field.
