Tobias Pflüger, a former member of the European Parliament and leader in German political party Die Linke, has issued a statement against German Ambassador Walter Lindner's visit to RSS headquarters.
He says that he does not consider it acceptable to visit a Hindu nationalist paramilitary. He says that the RSS refers positively to Hitler and is accused of attacks on minorities, especially Muslims. He says that the actions of the RSS today — not just historically — are controversial and problematic. He says that Ambassador Lindner's comment about the RSS being part of the "mosaic" of India makes it clear that he perceives the paramilitary as "normal."
He says that Ambassador Lindner's visit was understood as an appreciation of the RSS, is politically highly problematic, and that (in that sense) he embraces the criticism of the meeting. He says that he has contacted the German Foreign Office to register his protest. He says that he will continue to register enquiry with the German Federal Government to pressure them to explicitly distance themselves from the meeting.
