In Georgia, our state flag has been changed a few times. The most recent times it was changed were due to the removal of symbolism deemed offensive to African-American Georgians and other groups. That symbolism was directly related to what is popularly and historically known as the Confederate battle flag, rebel flag, or other nicknames.

Our current flag is essentially the Confederate national flag with the state emblem of Georgia. We have the same exact issue now as we had in the past. Our duly elected officials approved the current flag and they can change it again. 

In our state's history, we have not had an official flag of the state of Georgia that has not had Confederate symbolism. It's time to change that. It's time for Georgians to have a flag that represents all of our citizen's values and the citizen's themselves.

Let's do this. Let's create a flag with symbolism that HONORS & REPRESENTS ALL GEORGIANS and their history -- Native Americans, European settlers, & Africans brought here as slaves. Let's create a flag that represents this state, which was was built at a great cost to Native Americans & African-Americans, replacing the one that mainly represents their oppression. Let's create a flag that represents the future of Georgia and the people moving here to make a life and contribute. Let's create a flag that represents the collective pride of this state without symbolism that represents oppression and non-inclusiveness. 

This is our chance. Let's make the most of it.
