Hold graduation for Armstrong students in Savannah

The Issue

The consolidation of Armstrong State University into Georgia Southern University has negatively impacted Armstrong students consistently throughout the entire process. Many promises have been broken and questions have remained unanswered. For those students who chose to continue to attend the Armstrong campus - despite seeing programs cancelled, resources diverted, and almost no voice given to said students - and will graduate this semester, moving the commencement ceremony to the Statesboro campus is just adding insult to injury. Trying to soften the blow by having a separate ceremony for colleges might have been helpful if not for relegating those to the campuses where each are headquartered. For majors in the Business, Science & Math, Engineering & Computing, Arts & Humanities, and Behavioral & Social Sciences colleges, this could mean traveling from Statesboro and back twice; four hours of driving on the weekend that some may be trying to move out of dorm rooms and many will have family visiting. Georgia Southern University stated that the reason for this change was "to preserve the dignity of the event," but what about the dignity of Armstrong campus students?

Therefore we, as both Georgia Southern students and Armstrong Campus students, request that commencement ceremonies for Spring 2019 be held on both Statesboro and Savannah campuses, as was done last semester. This is how we ask the administration to consider us as equal students, and therefore worthy of having our dignity preserved.
