Blommer Science Library is a favorite study space for countless Georgetown students. The numerous whiteboards and large tables allow students to meet and study for exams in groups, facilitating learning and engagement with the courses. The many cubicles allow for quite studying in a calm, focused environment often difficult to find on our bustling campus.

Blommer also houses science textbooks for many of Georgetown's science and math classes, which students can check out and use for studying or homework. This access to textbooks saves students hundreds of dollars a year in course materials. Blommer also provides numerous other resources available to check-out or borrow, such as calculators, colored pencils, chargers, and whiteboard markers. Professors frequently place practice exams and keys on reserve in this library for their students. TAs also hold weekly review sessions and office hours in the library.

Blommer's location in the same building as most science courses allows it to serve as a home-base for many science students, who stop by before Organic Chemistry Lab Lecture or print their slides before Foundations of Biology. However, it also serves as a common meeting place for non-science majors, who find the quiet environment advantageous for studying.

The Dean of the Library announced in an email to the faculty on April 8th that Blommer Science Library will close by June 2020. To close Blommer library would be to lose a valuable resource on campus. Professors, students, and TAs would lose a convenient space for studying, review sessions, and posting course material. We, the students of Georgetown University, petition to keep Blommer open indefinitely and continue to provide Georgetown students with a positive space to study, collaborate, and thrive.
