This week’s Sunday Times Home section focused on the housing crisis – an eight page spread focusing on the state of the housing market. In one article, Who Holds The Key? The Sunday Times outlined a number of potential solutions to our housing crisis put forward by the various political parties. They also put forward a list of changes the Sunday Times is calling for to improve the UK’s housing situation. One change particularly stood out and that was their call for the Rent a Room Scheme tax threshold to be increased. They say: “Raise the £4,250 tax-free allowance for letting out spare bedrooms to increase supply (and help people stay in their homes if they need extra support).
