Thank you for your INCREDIBLE support for the petition calling on government to get serious about protecting our magnificent but rapidly vanishing meadows, and arresting the disastrous declines in our butterflies and bees.
It is heartening to know so many of you, like me, care so deeply about these beautiful places and the wildlife they underpin.
I am DELIGHTED to let you know that Plantlife's CEO Marian Spain and Director of Strategy Ben McCarthy have taken this crucial issue to a meeting with the Special Advisor on the Environment in the Prime Minister's Office. Now Number 10 know that more than 150,000 of us want REAL ACTION to protect our remaining 3% of meadows.
There is currently no proper mapping of meadows and that's ridiculous; unless we have a proper handle on where our remaining meadows actually are it will be IMPOSSIBLE to save and protect them.
Plantlife is campaigning for their recently launched Grasslands Action Plan to save, protect and love meadows. They believe that government's first priority MUST be to establish a national inventory of meadows - just like there already is for woodlands.
I know you care passionately about wildflowers and wildlife and I am asking you to write to your MP and other elected representatives urging them to take the first step: back the urgent call for a national inventory of British meadows.
