The proposed Genesee County Recycling and Education Center is planned for the former McDonald Dairy

The County connected the project to creating a “healthy, safe and livable” community while saying plans and timelines were still being developed. The County Commission, Treasurer’s Office, Land Bank and Metropolitan Planning Commission were involved in development yet, plans did not mention household hazardous waste, lithium-ion batteries, flammables or temporary hazardous-material storage.
The County demolished the dairy property specifically for this project. Its original public announcement described recycling and education, but did not disclose the hazardous-l waste, battery and flammable-material functions found in later project records.
