I have been unable to keep on with my own fight to reach acceptance of the housing law changes by our lawmakers, being overwhelmed by the events seeing millions of people displaced , the brutal killing of civilians and the continued destruction of a country nearby without forgetting smaller countries further away knowing the same fate.
These thoughts below are from a man Vaclav Havel , who was imprisoned multiple times for upholding his ideas of justice and humanism... and environmental responsibility , who became the president of his country before dying prematurely of ill health triggered by the tortures he had been through during his life.
Whatever your resolutions are for this month , started last month or a few months ago, some of his writings are worth reading again .
“ …Hope, in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously headed for early success, but, rather, an ability to work for something because it is good, not just because it stands a chance to succeed .
The more unpropitious the situation in which we demonstrate hope , the deeper that hope is .
Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism . It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.
In short I think that the deepest and most important form of hope ,the only one that can keep us above water and urge us to good works , and the only true source of the breathtaking dimension of the human spirit and its efforts , is something we get , as it were from “ elsewhere “.
It is also this hope, above all , which gives us the strength to live and continually to try new things , even in conditions that seem as hopeless as ours do, here and now. ……
by Vaclav Havel.
This is written by a man who spent years of being tortured in a dark room without a dash of a single ray from the sun light to feed his HOPE and yet never dithered.
The “elsewhere” mentioned by this writer resides in the heart of all citizens , and YOU ALONE can help me achieve this small task but too big for me of bringing in the housing field the right changes to allow Respect for all.
This kind of Hope will keep the momentum when the season is back allowing me to appear on the streets, for some, as an old “ demented “ woman asking for a lost cause to be heard and rectified, for others, giving them the courage to support my peaceful fight.
We have our own oligarchs over here, small and big, linked to properties and if we don’t have the same network, colour or similar names ,we are considered as subhumans. It is not right , it is wrong and why only my death will make me give up this fair request for rights.
