You know General Mills. Located in Minneapolis, they are among the world's largest food companies, and they market some of the best brands, including Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Green Giant, Nature Valley, Fiber One and Cheerios. And now it’s clear; they don’t just feed you, they SUPPORT YOU! And like others on the right side of justice, equality and fairness, they are under attack.
Those very same groups that preach hate and intolerance want General Mills, and other companies that support your civil rights, to stay out of it. Don’t let hate be the only voice heard.
General Mills is the latest corporation to step up and do what’s right for marriage equality. They spoke out against a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex couples from having equal access to marriage rights in Minnesota.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reported that the company's chief executive spoke out about the company's opposition to the proposed ban this week at a General Mills function. "We do not believe the proposed constitutional amendment is in the best interests of our employees or our state economy,"
In addition, the company's vice president for global diversity and inclusion, Ken Charles, is quoted by the publication as saying. "We value diversity. We value inclusion."
Tom Forsythe, vice president of corporate communications, also made a statement to On Top Magazine: "For decades, General Mills has worked to create an inclusive culture for our employees. We believe it is important for Minnesota to be viewed as inclusive and welcoming as well."
Marriage equality in Minnesota is already banned by statute. But those who do not support equality for all have said putting the ban in the state constitution would make it harder for courts to undo it, according to the Associated Press. The proposed amendment will be on the ballot in November.
