Pressure on Hong Kong Government needed

The Issue

  • 33,000 elephants are killed each year by poachers, almost one every 15 mins, not their meat or skin but only for their ivory.
  • Elephants are abandoned still alive and suffering because poachers take half of their head.
  • Thousands of baby elephants become orphan every year and cannot survive by themselves.
  • Africa lost 100,000 elephants from 2010 through 2012.
  • Millions of dollars in revenue from elephant and rhino poaching are funding terrorism and criminal activities.
  • Even Thailand and Mainland China are tougher on ivory trade, but Hong Kong doesn't do anything.

We cannot stay insensitive to this smiling orphan elephant recently rescued in Kenya. We must stop this massacre now.

We, as Canadians and citizens of the world, now ask the General Consulate of Canada in Hong Kong (www.facebook.com/CanadainHKandMacao) to urge the Hong Kong Government to ban trade and sales of ivory.
