enior figures from Nottinghamshire County Council have given evidence at an inquiry into historic child sexual abuse - with one telling the hearing that they inspect children's homes "when it's convenient to the home".
Councillor Philip Owen, chair of the children and young people’s committee at the council, said in a statement to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) that members of the committee had a duty to ensure that “children and young people are safe and protected”.
He said the members fulfilled this by visiting children’s homes where “they meet staff and, where possible, they meet children as they are going round the home”.
