Tomas Aragon and CDPH family,
Thank you soo much for allowing our cheerleaders to cheer and full time school for all students in California. I know many have kids of your own that were stuck home and can't do their sports!
We need simple guidelines that allow kids to play NOW! They are more at risk for mental health and suicide than Covid. So let's focus on helping them safely. Allow all sports, band, drumline, drill team, color guard, music, theatre, dance and choir to perform. We can't protect all kids from getting sick. It's not a realistic goal.
I really think we need to sit down and work together instead of divided. We are rational parents that want our kids to do what they love. These activities help them build long term relationships and skills that will assist them in dealing with the anxiety and fear that has come from this pandemic. We don't want them to get or spread Covid. We value human life more than anything.
These amazing kids did their part, so NOW it's time we did ours!
We need to really focus on the reality of the situation. Kids are NOT dying of covid and are NOT the super spreaders that we originally thought. Thank God only eight kids in California died of Covid. Plenty of studies showed that schools are safe because with simple mitigations, kids don't spread.
So we need to use that same rationale with all sports, band and music! I know early in the pandemic, everybody wants to focus on the one adult choir, in which there was a huge spread. The fact is they were a bunch of adults that weren't social distancing and weren't wearing masks.
So if you look at the science, there is easy mitigation to allow all these kids to play all of their sports, sing and play all the music they want! It's time to give the kids back to their ability to use their amazing skills and share it with others safely.

Open our performing arts theaters, get these kids dancing, and doing what they love. Dance and music to these students is just as important as the athletes are to their sports.
If sports can open inside and outside, so can all Visual and Performing Arts.
