In my piece, I talk about the NHL’s casual hostility toward victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. “Approximately one in three women will be the victim of intimate partner violence and one in six women will be the victim of rape or attempted rape within their lifetimes, yet we have a culture of assuming that when a woman reports abuse or assault, she is lying. When institutions like the NHL refuse even to acknowledge the existence of serious allegations, they reinforce the notion that the world is populated with women trying to make a buck off accusing a rich, famous man of rape.
