Dear Friends: This morning, I had a phone call with Janelle Erickson, the Director of Public Affairs at GAP. The conversation was productive and informative and I am anxious to share with you the important topics we discussed. Firstly, Janelle very much understands our views on the use of fur-bearing animals for the sake of fashion and profit. She is relatively new to GAP, but has worked on animal issues in the past. She has established herself as a point of contact for our cause and even provided me with her personal cell phone number. As you can see, there are still fur items for sale on the Intermix website as part of their Fall line. However, there is only a fraction of the items for sale today as compared to when I began this petition nearly one year ago. Janelle has assured me that GAP has drastically cut its fall fur orders for Intermix stores. She also recognizes that the continued sale of fur needs to be addressed within the corporation, an effort that she will be spearheading. Finally, I was told that “things are moving in the right direction” and GAP, Inc is currently working “to bring Intermix more in line with GAP policy”. This is great news for us, but also a reminder of the importance of continuing to make our wishes known. We will not stop until GAP, Inc. adopts a fur-free policy. Janelle told me that she would be in touch soon, at which point she will provide me with more information about GAP’s progress. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your endless posts, phone calls, tweets, and most importantly, your commitment to ending the suffering of fur-bearing animals in the name of profit.
