The TRUTH is TAXPAYERS WILL SUBSIDIZE GANNON (a private college that does not pay any taxes) for TAKING AWAY USED SPACE in our public library.
- This lease charges FAR BELOW MARKET VALUE
- DOES NOT RAISE THE RENT for 25 years and
- CHARGES NOTHING for the shared use of (i) the classroom and Idea Lab located in the Building, (ii) the Building's garage bay to transport materials and equipment in and out of the Leased Premises and store a golf cart or other small utility vehicle, and (iii) the restrooms and other common areas of the Building including the Admiral Room and the Hirt Auditorium.
If Gannon was charged MARKET PRICES, with increases over time and if they were charged for all the extra spaces above, they would be PAYING TENS OF THOUSANDS and more EACH YEAR!
Over 25 years, taxpayers would SUBSIDIZE Gannon OVER A MILLION + to take away used space, FORCING valued library programs to less desirable locations and HAMPERING the ability to add new library programs approved by the public!
Wouldn't we all love 3,289 s/f on the waterfront for just $1,913.00/month?
