Have Loblaws remove the property caveat on the 7th Avenue Shop Easy in Saskatoon
Have Loblaws remove the property caveat on the 7th Avenue Shop Easy in Saskatoon
The Issue
On November 3rd, 2015, the 7th avenue Shop Easy in Saskatoon will be closing. The City Park community is devastated by the news that it is about to lose its neighbourhood grocery store.
As disappointed as we are, our residents understand that corporate decisions have to be made and that this is what your company felt is in its best interest. However, we have also learned that there is a caveat to the property title agreement that prevents sale to anyone who would open another grocery store.
Our neighbourhood has limited commercial zoning that can accommodate a grocery store and the location of the Shop Easy is the best and only real option. We understand that keeping the store open is no longer viable therefore we simply ask that the caveat be lifted so the community may still have access to a food source.
The community of City Park is a diverse group, consisting of students, elderly, and families, some of which rely on this grocery store as their sole source of food and some of which lack transportation. The Shop Easy for many is more than just a quick stop to pick up a few things, it is the way many sustain their lives.
Mr. Weston, we, the residents of City Park hope that you may find it in your heart to help our little community and families to thrive and prosper as is depicted in many of your television and media ads.
Sincerely,
The community of City Park and residents of Saskatoon.
