Make safety a priority for everyone - Petition update

Suburban HeightsGainesville, FL, United States
Mar 23, 2021

Hi all, I just wanted to reach out to let you know we’ve just passed 609 signatures on our petition! Thank you so much for your support! Will you help me to get more support by sharing this petition with ten other people? If enough of us sign we can’t be ignored! Here’s a link to share https://www.change.org/p/gainesville-city-commissioners-keep-our-neighborhood-safe

We are still waiting to hear if this rezoning proposal will go on the April or May Gainesville City Commission meeting agenda. As soon as we hear, we will share that information.

294 more cars for drive-thru coffee

You might have seen our signs around Suburban Heights or received a flyer on your porch about 294 more cars. We are trying to let everyone know how rezoning this property could impact everyone in the area.

Have you seen the traffic issues caused from the coffee shop on NW 13 Street near GHS? How about the coffee shop traffic jam on NW 43 Street across from Talbot Elementary? This new coffee shop with a drive-thru  will most definitely cause traffic to back up on NW 43 Street and NW 23 Avenue as well.

The developers conservatively estimate there will be 1472 visits to this new development per day. And we think this will cause a LATTE of U-turns on NW 43 Street. As drivers realize they can't travel north or west when they exit with a latte in hand it will cause them to cut through Suburban Heights or make a U-turn.  If only 20% of these vehicles use Suburban Heights as a cut-thru it could mean 294 more cars traveling on 19 Avenue and 46 Street.

Families who are out walking, children on bikes, people walking their dogs, school children at bus stops or walking to school will all be affected as vehicles zoom down NW 19 Avenue and NW 46 Street to reach NW 23 Avenue. The developers live in Atlanta and won't be affected by the traffic safety issues they help create.

Please talk to your neighbors, friends and family and ask them to help support our efforts by signing this petition. We aren't against development, but we are against rezoning this property to a commercial development with a drive-thru.

Lastly, we wanted to share this article about two boys who were hit while biking to Littlewood Elementary School. The boys were in their own neighborhood, but their street is used as a cut through for people in a hurry. We want to prevent any more tragedy's like this. https://www.change.org/p/gainesville-city-commissioners-keep-our-neighborhood-safe
