Take Georgia off the list of states which are allowing seismic testing and drilling for oil in the Atlantic.

The U.S. Department of the Interior has proposed to open up our coast for offshore drilling for oil and gas. If there is enough local opposition, then we may have a chance to remove Georgia from the plan. Since the public comment is over, we need to let the Governor know that Georgians don't want offshore drilling.
Because of the proposed seismic testing and oil drilling in the Atlantic (including off our GA coast), a group of concerned citizens have formed a coalition called SODA-POP (Stop Offshore Drilling in the Atlantic – Prevent Oil Pollution) which opposes the action and hopes to prevent BIG OIL from destroying yet one more part of our Planet.
Since starting the coalition, it has become evident that many members of the public are not aware of the proposed oil drilling and the potential devastating effects to marine life, including our much loved sea turtles, and also to the cost of human health, as experienced in the Gulf of Mexico.
We are therefore asking everyone to sign our online petition asking Governor Deal to stand up for Georgia’s coastal resources, heritage, and quality of life and ask the Obama Administration to take Georgia out of the five year plan for drilling that the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has recently proposed.
Here is what we are asking the Governor to do:
Dear Governor Deal: Georgia’s coastal communities and residents have spoken out en masse against the federal proposal to allow oil and gas development off our coast. I respectfully ask you to stand up for Georgia’s coastal resources, heritage, and quality of life and ask the Obama Administration to take Georgia out of the five year plan for drilling that the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has recently proposed.
Offshore drilling would require industrializing our coastline, it would threaten the billions of dollars and tens of thousands of jobs that tourism brings to our economy, and the public would be excluded from the process. Any data from seismic testing off our coast would not be public. The Federal Government and the testing companies would not share the data; it would be "proprietary." I respectfully urge you to tell the Obama Administration that you cannot support drilling, especially if it happens behind closed doors, and recognize that offshore drilling is not in the best interest of our state and withdraw Georgia from the proposed plans.
Please sign and share with everyone you know. Together we can protect our beautiful GA coast for at least One More Generation… and beyond.
