Goliath Groupers Safe For Now! ❤
The FWC Commissioners approved the draft rules for a proposed goliath grouper hunt at today's meeting in a unanimous decision but agreed that they are not ready to proceed with a hunt. The commissioners addressed concerns from scientists and stakeholders, acknowledged the importance of goliaths on reefs and ecotourism, and made amendments to the current proposal.
We want to thank everyone that took action to protect goliath groupers. The fight is not over!
The good news is that we have more time and opportunities to provide feedback. FWC staff will be scheduling webinars and workshops that we can all participate in, follow us for updates. The next FWC meeting will be in March of 2022.
