What started as a simple school project for our group quickly became something much more personal. Our initial goal was just to complete a petition to lessen animal testing in the beauty industry and promote cruelty-free substitutes. However, as we dove deeper into our research, we were confronted with the harsh and heartbreaking reality behind the products we use every day. We saw how rabbits, guinea pigs, and mice endure painful chemical tests for lipstick, shampoo, and lotion, a cruelty that is often hidden behind beautiful packaging.

Every year, millions of animals suffer in laboratories for the sake of cosmetics, even though safe and more effective cruelty-free alternatives already exist. These animals are subjected to skin irritation tests, eye toxicity tests, and force-feeding of chemicals that cause immense pain, and in most cases, death. This is not beauty. Beauty should never come at the cost of an innocent life. Our advocacy stands firm that there is no justification for this suffering when science has already given us better, kinder options.

This is why we, the Fur Free Beauty Advocacy, are launching this petition. We are calling on consumers, beauty brands, and policymakers to support and choose cruelty-free beauty and to lessen, if not end, cosmetic testing on animals. What began as a mere project is now our mission to raise awareness, to educate our fellow students, and to prove that we can be beautiful without being cruel.
