Amoowigamig public washroom petition: partial success and much more to do

On Wednesday (March 22) Winnipeg City Council approved a budget raising funding for the Amoowigamig public washroom from $200,000 to $250,000 for the coming year.
This is far short of the estimated $650,000 required to keep the washroom staffed and open 24/7, but it should allow the washroom to continue its current 10 hour a day service. When we started this petition it appeared that there would only be funding for 8 hours a day.
This petition has certainly helped to draw public attention to this issue. There have already been some hints that next year's budget might possibly include full 24/7 funding. For that reason, let us keep this petition in circulation. Please encourage your friends and contacts to sign, especially those who live in Winnipeg; and please take any other opportunity you can to draw attention to this issue and remind our political leaders of what needs to be done. Thank you for your support!
