The girls water polo coaching position became available in May. The position was released in July to the public. I know for a fact that Coach Lopez applied. I know because she shared her hesitation with me. This was obviously a difficult decision for her to make without the situation being fully resolved. She interviewed last Thursday. An experience she described as both uncomfortable and with some irregularities. 

Last night my son let me know that the boys assistant coach, in his mid twenties has become the head girls coach. There is zero percent of the likelihood that he is more qualified than Coach Lopez or that he will provide what she did to our kids. Kids like my son. As school starts in a few weeks we are looking at the same patterns of neglect we have been dealing with for three years. Anger issues. No team bonding. No fundraising. No tournaments. Just the bare minimum. He also did all of the work for Coach Vinuela. What does that mean for the boys season? 

Both the discrimination and retaliation towards Coach Lopez is thriving. She prioritized those kids and ensured they had every opportunity possible. 

The scoreboard is still a piece of crap. This has been an ongoing issue that FUSD has failed to correct. Failed to correct but has had no issue’s “breaking dirt” on new multimillion dollar construction projects.

Advocates will be meeting next week to discuss next steps. This crap won't be tolerated. Discrimination and retaliation are illegal and should be treated as such.
