Good evening,
The first update on the dyer need for FUSD to take this seriously is regarding the equipment. During the FUSD investigation, aimed at avoiding liability, the evidence was so abundant regarding the condition of the FHS deck and oversight that they had no choice but to sustain it.
Even though they sustained the allegation, the information is not correct. The summary implies that the meeting Coach Lopez had with the former FHS administration regarding the equipment resulted in their support to obtain the necessary touch pads. This is not true. Those touch pads were purchased through Coach Lopez’s diligent fundraising efforts, not due to any additional support from the FHS administration. Multiple athletes have commented on her fundraising efforts in this petition.
Years later the scoreboard is barely functioning and STILL has holes where the Warrior logo once was. FHS was granted over $400k to make the necessary branding changes during the logo change period, but made the choice to ignore this. To make matters worse many schools are receiving brand new LED light signs, even though their older signs are still in working condition and do not have holes.
Coach Lopez was able to demonstrate proven results that there is a demand for aquatic sports with the current FUSD student population, even with little support from FHS administration. Imagine how different the program would be today if she had been able to continue her mission. Our kids deserve this opportunity that comes with HOLISTIC programs like hers.
Thank you to everyone who has read, signed, shared, and donated money to this petition. Grassroots efforts are difficult to get up and running but are proven to make the needed change the community wants.
Thank you,
Cresta
