UPDATE #1: Thank you everyone for the signatures and shares for our campaign #FreeShankarDelhiZoo . It was heartwarming to see signatures from all parts of the world with the same sentiment of compassion and empathy.

Some of you may be aware of the case of #Kaavan, a 36 year old bull Asian elephant living in deplorable conditions at the Islamabad zoo and often called the world's loneliest elephant. After spending numerous years in 'maddening' solitary captivity he got a miraculous new lease of life when in May 2020, the Islamabad High Court ordered Kaavan to be released from the zoo. This came in response to a campaign launched by local and international animal rights activists (Free the Wild), led by American singer Cher. Kaavan is now adapting to his new and wonderful life in a sanctuary in Cambodia and has begun socializing with his neighbors we are told :)

It sounds like a fairytale and certainly must have felt like that when the activists started to campaign for Kaavan's release. However the reality is IT HAPPENED against all odds. The point is that if courts/zoo/government/public-opinion in Pakistan could allow Kaavan's release, shouldn't we be expecting more from India?
