CALL TO ACTION on MAY 3, 2021

Community involvement is crucial to securing Prakash's freedom, and he desperately needs your support. The state will not allow Prakash to work and has placed him on house arrest. On May 3, 2021, community members will be picketing at the Queen’s Court House. If you are interested in getting involved and attending, please reach out to Prakash via Instagram or Email (see below). Please be sure to wear a face mask and maintain 6 feet of distance.

Through our community demanding Prakash's release from pretrial detention, and our sharing of Prakash's story with our networks, Prakash was released from Rikers Island and met his first fundraising goal. But the fight is far from over, as Queens District Attorney, Melinda Katz, is still pushing forward with his charges, despite the fact that his conviction was overturned in June 2020. Yet even while state appeals judges saw that the NYPD's corrupt questioning methods may be the cause of Prakash's false confession, Katz has been silent. What may be even more concerning is that when community members reached out to Katz's office about dropping Prakash's charges, Katz’s team chose to state “No Comment.”
