Greetings from Hiroshima!
On June 3, Nagasaki Mayor Shiro Suzuki announced at a press conference that the City would not send an invitation to Israel at the Peace Memorial Ceremony at this time. The mayor explained that “it is difficult to make a decision at this time in light of the critical humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and international public opinion about it." Instead of a letter of invitation, a letter will be sent to the Israeli embassy in Japan calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Like Hiroshima, Russia and Belarus will not be invited for the third year in a row, but Hiroshima and Nagasaki are clearly divided in their stance toward the genocide in Palestine.
Hiroshima must take a principled stand against this genocide and disinvite Israel! Now is the time for citizens of Japan and the world to make their voices heard!
