Improve Union County Park Fields in Hillside

The Issue

SCP Youth Soccer has been serving Hillside, NJ and Union County Residents since 2016 offering Youth Travel Soccer and Toddler Intro soccer. There is a major issue with the field conditions at Conant Park and Rutgers Park in Hillside, NJ causing many hours of missed outdoor recreation time for our children and other In-town and County programs.

Despite the Union County Parks and Recreation Department's best efforts, the over used fields offer significant maintenance such as poor drainage, unleveled grounds due to constant vehicles being driven across the field causing damage.
The field is riddled with holes, bare spots, and uneven ground. Also, because of the disrepair, the field becomes a swamp every time there is a bit of precipitation, making any form of play impossible. Additionally, we are constantly finding garbage, dog feces because owners refuse to curb their pets.
Surrounding Union County towns all have county parks that are turfed/lighted and playable all year.
Their are many solutions to these problems such as a "turf field" for example which recovers faster than natural grass thus increasing available field playing time for residents. "Gating the area" increases growth of grass and field conditions and also prevents vehicles from driving on the grounds causing damage. Also proper lighting prevents crime and also a safer environment for our children and residents.

Speed Conditioning Performance Youth Soccer (SCPYS) mission is to offer and support sports programs and outdoor-based programs that the Hillside community and Union County residents deserves and desires.

We are asking for your support by signing this petition so our elected officials at the county and town level are made aware of the situation so action can be taken as soon possible. Our children and residents deserve it.
