Next Steps

Thank you to everybody for sharing this petition with their friends and fellow enthusiasts. We now have over 2700 signatures, in just over a week. This petition was also linked in a Forbes.com article, which helped spread the word, and bring into sharper light the absurdity of the raids that took place just 12 days ago. Enough pressure was put onto the office of BC Attorney General Hon. David Eby, that his public position changed from a passive blame shift to LCLB, to the recent reports which have Mr. Eby quoted as saying "bars or restaurants that specialize in exotic products... should be able to access that kind of product legally". And yes, we all agree with him on that point. However - all this rhetoric does not change the arbitrary, discriminatory, and peculiarly singular application of the current law that resulted in hundreds of bottles being seized from 4 targeted BC establishments. We still do not have an answer as to why this happened, and why the law was enforced in such a heavy handed, and frankly un-Canadian manner. While the office of the Attorney General is taking submissions from bars & restaurants on policy changes, it is not hard to see why bars and restaurants would be reluctant to submit such recommendations, as it effectively puts a target on their backs for investigation. That's where you come in - please submit YOUR recommendations to Mr. Eby's office. He can be contacted via email at AG.Minister@gov.bc.ca, or by phone at 250 387-1866. I would also encourage you to also include your local MLA in the conversation. Please let your elected officials know that we need to see immediate action to change the laws that allowed these shocking raids to occur on BC establishments. Equally as important, we need to see the return of the confiscated whisky purchased through BC private stores. If unilateral and unexplained raids can occur on BC businesses, why can't we see collaborative, positive change to the current laws, with the same sense of urgency?
