FREE THE OCKLAWAHA RIVER BY THE BREACHING OF RODMAN DAM

After 50 years FLORIDIANS may still need to express their true opinion about this question!

"Question for FLORIDA registered voters only: Are you in favor of the efforts to FREE THE OCKLAWAHA RIVER BY THE BREACHING OF RODMAN DAM? YES or NO?"  https://www.survey-maker.com/poll3349673x9c2b416f-102

This online FOR-FREE-$$$ SECRET BALLOT POLL -- no "purse strings" attached -- could offer a glimpse into the future of what a simplified official Florida ballot referendum initiative might look like.

Created January 16, 2021 for registered Florida voters only: YOU CAN VOTE BUT ONCE IN THIS SURVEY!

ONE Florida registered voter gets only one "YES" or "NO" please!

BUT YOU CAN CHECK THE LATEST CUMULATIVE "ELECTION RESULTS" ANYTIME YOU WANT TO -- AT THAT SAME LINK SIMPLY BY CLICKING ON THE "RESULTS" BUTTON!

Paul Nosca likes to see a running tally of supporters &/or non-supporters posted candidly & in a timely manner. The Ocklawaha River restoration issue is not some sort of "TOP SECRET" military operation!

Even politicians (like current Governor Ron DeSantis [R], Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried [D], & former US Senator Bill Nelson [D], for example), public-sector employees (like Eric Draper & John Hendrickson, for example), lawyers (like David Guest, for example), & media reporters (like Kevin Spear, for example) can register their wishes secretly here -- just like voting on a real ballot in a real election!

This is a State of Florida issue & I will endeavor to delete any VOTE that has been electronically generated from outside of Florida or any duplicates that I am able to identify (I can generate a Poll Maker report from time to time). I have deleted 4 VOTES from outside of Florida so far. I am only able to view the individual computer statistics (for duplicates) of & where the VOTE was electronically generated. It does not allow me to see whether it was a YES or NO for deletion purposes & the poll doesn't ask for or need your email address, so your email address I will not be aware of.

"Ocklawahaman" Paul Nosca won't be a party to any of the less-than-accurate information involved with this restoration question that I may have discovered. With this poll I wish to see an unofficial referendum by Floridians YES or NO that would offer a glimpse into the future of what an official State of Florida referendum vote by real ballots might look like. And I encourage the supporters of Rodman Dam & Reservoir to vote YES or NO in what I hope to be a FOR-FREE-$$$, fair, & balanced register of opposing opinions. Rodman supporters will be made fully aware of the link to this poll.

From September to November of 1968 -- at the age of 16 -- Paul Nosca performed volunteer work with the "Nixon for President" campaign in Pinellas County, Florida. If Richard M. Nixon (R) had not been elected President in November 1968, we would not STILL TODAY have the opportunity to restore the Ocklawaha River (Silver Springs to the St. Johns River) to free-&-swift-flowing-again. The Ocklawaha River & even part of Silver River would have been lost forever drowned under the 40-foot elevation "Eureka Reservoir" (Eureka Barge Navigation Pool). I wonder how many of you worked &/or volunteered to elect President NIXON in 1968?

Every once in a while a man comes along with TRUE GRIT who uses his power to the very edge of the law (& sometimes even beyond) to get good things done! Such a fellow was our 37th President.

1971-01-19 TUESDAY (50 YEARS AGO AS OF TODAY 2021-01-19 TUESDAY): President Richard M. Nixon (R) HALTS the Cross Florida Barge Canal project & THUS saves the Ocklawaha River from total destruction!

October 28, 1970

President Richard M. Nixon (R) while campaigning in Florida in 1970 on behalf of Governor Claude Kirk (R) and other Republican candidates, noticed, at one of the stops, signs urging "Stop the Cross Florida Barge Canal!" Nixon then turned to Kirk and said, "Governor, there is opposition to your canal." Where-upon Claude Kirk waggishly replied: "No, Mr. President, not my canal, YOUR CANAL!"

Statement about Halting Construction of the Cross Florida Barge Canal

I am today ordering a halt to further construction of the Cross Florida Barge Canal to prevent potentially serious environmental damages.

The purpose of the canal was to reduce transportation costs for barge shipping. It was conceived and designed at a time when the focus of Federal concern in such matters was still almost completely on maximizing economic return. In calculating that return, the destruction of natural, ecological values was not counted as a cost, nor was a credit allowed for actions preserving the environment.

A natural treasure is involved in the case of the Barge Canal--the Oklawaha River--a uniquely beautiful, semitropical stream, one of a very few of its kind in the United States, which would be destroyed by construction of the Canal.

The Council on Environmental Quality has recommended to me that the project be halted, and I have accepted its advice. The Council has pointed out to me that the project could endanger the unique wildlife of the area and destroy this region of unusual and unique natural beauty.

The total cost of the project if it were completed would be about $180 million. About $50 million has already been committed to construction. I am asking the Secretary of the Army to work with the Council on Environmental Quality in developing recommendations for the future of the area.

The step I have taken today will prevent a past mistake from causing permanent damage. But more important, we must assure that in the future we take not only full but also timely account of the environmental impact of such projects-so that instead of merely halting the damage, we prevent it.

Richard M. Nixon

President of the United States
